Author Bio

DIANE MULCAHY

DIANE MULCAHY created and teaches a trailblazing course, “Entrepreneurship and the Gig Economy,” which was named by Forbes as one of the Top Ten Most Innovative Business School Classes in in the country. She is a Senior Fellow at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and an Adjunct Lecturer in the MBA program at Babson College. Practicing what she teaches, Diane is an active, enthusiastic participant in the Gig Economy, which offers professionals, technicians, and self-starters a wide variety of engaging, well-compensated options to a traditional full-time job.

In her new book, THE GIG ECONOMY: The Complete Guide to Getting Better Work, Taking More Time Off, and Financing the Life You Want (AMACOM; November 8, 2016), Mulcahy presents a guide through this transformative labor market and provides a toolkit for succeeding in it. “Skilled workers are the winners who take all,” she declares. “Their talents are in demand, so they can command high wages. They can take advantage of the chance to create a working life that incorporates flexibility, autonomy, and meaning. In the Gig Economy, skilled workers have the chance to move from good jobs to great work.”

In between full-time and part-time jobs in venture capital, Diane Mulcahy has been a Visiting Fellow at Trinity College in Dublin, an Executive-in-Residence at Babson, and an Eisenhower Fellow to Saudi Arabia and Turkey. She has written two books, a widely-read report, and several articles and editorials on venture capital. Her work in venture capital and entrepreneurship has been featured on NPR and in the Harvard Business Review, The Huffington Post, Fortune, Forbes, The New Yorker, The Economist, and other national media. Over her gig career, she has also served as an independent consultant to young companies and investors, lived in five different cities, and taken off two different years to travel around the world.

When not working, Diane enjoys reading (mostly non-fiction), writing (only non-fiction), food (eating and cooking), wine, yoga, and running. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University. A dual U.S. and Irish citizen, Diane calls both Boston and Dublin home, and shares her passion for the gig life with her husband, Kevin.
