Autism Mom, Clinician, Advocate, and Author

Janet Lintala, DC, is dedicated to helping children and adults with autism feel better, function better, and live each day to the fullest. As the mother of three boys, she has struggled with a variety of issues, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Tourette disorder, OCD, ADHD, panic attacks, learning disabilities, insomnia, and gastrointestinal problems. As a clinician, she has developed holistic action plans to support vibrant health on the autism spectrum without prescription drugs. In her groundbreaking book, THE UN-PRESCRIPTION FOR AUTISM: A Natural Approach for a Calmer, Happier, and More Focused Child (AMACOM; April 6, 2016), she shares her insights and strategies for addressing the underlying health issues that aggravate a range of ASD symptoms.

“Interventions, therapies, and behavior programs cannot possibly be at their maximum potential for success then the child they are aimed at is powering through a haze of discomfort and dysfunction,” states Dr. Lintala. “We are asking these children to do their best while they feel their worst.”

Dr. Lintala holds a B.S. in Genetics from Ohio State University, and graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic, summa cum laude, from The National University of Health Sciences, near Chicago, IL. One month after graduation, she began her 20+ year “residency” in autism with the birth of her first son. The founder of the non-profit Autism Health! center, she is dedicated to bringing the latest in research and therapies to improve the overall health and quality of life for children and adults with ASD in twelve states. Her strategies include dietary changes, vitamin and mineral supplements, probiotics, and enzymes. None of her natural protocols attempt to “fix,” cure, or prevent ASD.

As a resource and advocate for autism parents, Dr. Lintala is committed to her own continuing education and professional development. She has attended many autism training conferences, completed the Defeat Autism Now! clinician training (multiple times), and completed two Mentorships at the RIMLAND Center under Elizabeth Mumper, M.D., former Medical Director of The Autism Research Institute.

In 2014, Dr. Lintala was appointed by the Governor of West Virginia as Secretary to the State Rehabilitation Council. Since 2013, she has served as an adjunct faculty member of the National University of Health Sciences. She is a speaker for Intersect4Kids, a nationwide program for educating doctors and healthcare givers on complementary medicine, nutrition, and exercise to get the best results for each child, and a member of the Speaker’s Bureau for NCMIC, the largest insurer of chiropractors in the nation. She is also a member of the Advisory Panel to the Boy Scouts of America National Disability Awareness Council. Her three boys (and their father) are long-time, passionate participants in scouting. Two of her sons have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout; the youngest is in the process.

Janet Lintala lives in Beckley, West Virginia, with her husband and two younger sons. Her oldest son, who was diagnosed with ASD two decades ago, graduated from high school in the top five percent of his class and currently attends college.
