Susan Wilson Solovic is an award-winning entrepreneur, a CEO, a business journalist and bestselling author, a sought-after keynote speaker, a multi-media personality, and an attorney. Behind her impressive achievements, she embodies the basic traits of every successful small business owner: a commitment to hard work, an eagerness to learn, as well as resilience and persistence.

In her latest book, IT’S YOUR BIZ: The Complete Guide to Becoming Your Own Boss (AMACOM; October 11, 2011), Solovic shares the benefit of her decades of entrepreneurial experience and business savvy to help anyone with passionate entrepreneurial dreams, providing them a firm sense of reality. “Starting a business is a lifestyle change, just like making a decision to lose weight and get healthy,” Solovic stresses. “To be successful, you need not only the right mindset, motivation, and personal resources, but also the resolve to go the distance.”

Raised in rural Missouri by entrepreneurial parents, Solovic learned early the meaning and value of becoming one’s own boss. At the age of 15, she launched her first business, giving baton-twirling lessons. Later, she became the first in her family to graduate from law school—made possible by working full time. Yet, she couldn’t shake the feeling that law was not her ultimate calling. Leaving her practice, she tapped into her entrepreneurial spirit by building a company dedicated to small businesses from the ground up. As CEO and co-founder, she led ItsYourBiz.com (formerly SBTV.com) from a concept to a highly acclaimed, multi-million dollar enterprise. In 2006, Solovic accepted the Stevie Award on behalf of ItsYourBiz.com for the Most Innovative Company under 100 employees; that same year, ItsYourBiz.com was voted the Best Investment Opportunity presenting to a Venture Forum event in the Silicon Valley.

Solovic is a small-business contributor for ABC News. She appears frequently on CNBC, Fox Business News, Good Day New York, MSNBC, and her local television stations. In 2011, Solovic launched a nationally syndicated radio show, It’s Your Biz with Susan Solovic, welcoming leading entrepreneurial experts from across the country to share their unique perspectives. In conjunction with PBS, she created a feature program called Reinvent Yourself Now: Become Self-Reliant in an Unpredictable World. In addition to television and radio appearances, Solovic is a featured blogger on numerous websites, including AllBusiness.com, Constant Contact, WSJ.com, U.S. Small Business Administration, and Fast Company.

Solovic is the author of three previous books including The Girls’ Guide to Power and Success and The Girls’ Guide to Building a Million-Dollar Business. A fervent activist for women entrepreneurs, Solovic received the Institute for Women’s Entrepreneurship Leader of Distinction Award in 2009. In 2008, she was the first recipient of AT&T’s Innovator of the Year Award for being a pioneer in a new industry.

She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with her best friend and biggest fan: her husband, George.
